Captive Portal

The Captive Portal is the guest-facing WiFi login experience displayed to visitors the moment they connect to a venue's network, before internet access is granted. It serves as the primary data collection touchpoint — capturing guest information such as name, email address, and country — and is fully customizable per location through a visual editor.

Managing Portal Templates​

Captive portal configurations are organized as templates, which can be created, versioned, and managed independently per location:

  • Templates are grouped by location in the template list view.
  • Each template displays its current publication status: Published (the version actively shown to guests) or Draft (a version in progress that is not yet visible to guests).
  • From the template list, the following actions are available for each template: Preview, Edit, Duplicate, Rename, and Publish.
  • The template list can be filtered by location to navigate more efficiently across multiple venues.

Building a Portal​

Opening a template launches the visual editor, where you design four interconnected screens that constitute the complete guest journey:

  • Landing — The initial welcome screen presented to all guests. Composed of configurable header, body, and footer sections supporting logos, text, images, and call-to-action buttons.
  • Data Form — The data collection screen where guests provide their information prior to being granted network access.
  • Returning Guest — An abbreviated screen shown to guests who have connected at this venue previously, reducing friction for repeat visitors.
  • OTP Verify — An optional email verification step that prompts guests to confirm their email address via a one-time passcode before access is granted.

Form Fields and Conditional Logic​

The Data Form screen supports a range of field types to collect the information most relevant to your business:

  • Supported field types include: text input, dropdown selection, radio buttons, checkboxes, and date picker.
  • Dropdown and radio button fields support conditional logic, enabling a guest's response to one question to dynamically reveal or branch to different follow-up questions.
  • Deleting a question that is referenced by a conditional logic rule will also remove the associated branching configuration and any downstream questions that depend on it.

Design & Customization​

The visual editor provides granular control over the appearance of each screen:

  • Customize the background, primary colors, logo, and media (images or video) for each screen section independently.
  • All design changes are reflected in a real-time preview within the editor.
  • Preview the portal across desktop, tablet, and mobile breakpoints to ensure a consistent experience for guests on any device.

Previewing and Publishing​

  • Preview — Opens the portal in a new browser tab as guests will see it. Includes a language selector to verify translated versions of the portal.
  • Publish — Promotes the selected template to live status for its associated location. Once published, this template replaces any previously active version and becomes the portal guests encounter immediately upon connecting.

Portal Delivery​

The published captive portal is delivered to connecting guests by the physical WiFi router paired to the location. The router intercepts new connections and redirects them to the captive portal before granting internet access.
